  Sales Tips & Tools
Key Display Building Tips!
* Interactive displays are the most successful. They get the consumer involved and more familiar with the product.
* Themes are important to cross sell related products. Be sure to not let it become too cluttered though.
* Display should be bold enough to capture the shopper's attention. The eye seeks harmony, balance & color.
* Most powerful displays are triangular. They move the eye up and down. Angles create more interest. * Vary price ranges within your display to appeal to each consumer's price point interest.
* Tweak your display every few weeks to keep your customer's interest each time they are in your store.
* Sampling plays a big role in visual merchandising. Demoing should be a part of your holiday display strategy. Feeding the customer is great so they feel good as they shop. It adds energy and excitement to your store.
* Seek inspiration from others. Visit other gourmet or kitchenware store for ideas.

Other Tools Available:

Movie Time
Freshly popped popcorn is a comforting thing on a cold, blustery day, especially when accompanied by hot cup of cider. This can be a very appealing way to sample your gourmet popcorn and stovetop poppers. The smells from the popper are as seductive as freshly baked bread. The cost of the popcorn is minimal and your supplier will probably help out (see our demo program). Demonstrating the poppers is a sure way to show how simple it is to make great popcorn at home. If you are unable to demonstrate the poppers in your store, then pop the popcorn & give samples of the popcorn away. You can accentuate this promotion by running some movies in the afternoon in the same place you conduct the tasting. Think about running some classic short films, such as those with Laurel and Hardy or Three Stooges. Showing them on a film projector gives everyone a real movie theater experience, but they are all available on video and DVD as well and can be played on a TV. Silent shorts work great because you don't have to worry about the sound, and a customer can stand and watch a whole film in about the time it takes to make and eat the popcorn. Movie Trailers also work well, some video stores can offer these videos to you. You can become known for "Friday Film Day" or "Saturday Matinee at the Movies."

Movie Time :The Sequel
Expand on the wonderful combination of popcorn and the movies by contacting a local video store and suggesting a cross-promotion. When customers buy a stovetop popcorn popper, they receive a voucher/coupon for a free or discounted movie rental. Then they can get a \"popcorn card\" that keeps track of their rentals. Every fifth movie rental merits them a free bag of popcorn for their popper from your store. This kind of promoting keeps shoppers going back to both the video shop and your store. And encourage sales for both parties

The Healthful Snack
An other appealing ways to merchandise popcorn is as a healthful snack. Popcorn is high in fiber, low in calories, all natural, and contains almost no fat, depending on what you add to it after you pop it. In a good stovetop popper, you need only a teaspoonful of oil to pop 6 quarts of popcorn. That's as little as 4.5 grams of fat for the equivalent of two bags of microwave popcorn. Contact a local health club and suggest a joint promotion. Supply them with a stovetop popper and some popcorn with signage outlining the nutritional facts and your store as the source for these products. You can even offer a discount to anyone who shows their club membership card. Meanwhile in the store, stack up the popcorn makers and a display of gourmet popcorn with a sign that reads, "Looking for a healthy snack alternative? Try Popcorn." Next to this you can feature the club's promotional material.

A Gift of Popcorn
Hand-Cranked Stovetop poppers make unique gifts for Father\'s Day, weddings, graduations, housewarmings, and Christmas. The poppers are reasonably priced, customers can buy popcorn anywhere even if the recipient doesn\'t live near a specialty store, and they are fun for the whole family. Towards this end, always keep a stack of the poppers displayed and have a few of them prewrapped for a quick gift-giving idea. With all the extra sales you\'ll generate, you may just want to kick back this weekend and rent some movies, with popcorn of course.

Stack'em High Watch'em Buy
Now, another way to increase sales of poppers & popcorn is by building large displays, not many products build as nice a display stacking up a large display of poppers & popcorn. It has been proven that the consumer believes that if there is a large display on a retail floor that 1) the product is a fast selling product & that they should grab one now while they last and 2) the product is a good, high quality made item. Not to mention that a large displays catches they eye so they are more interested in seeing what the product is. Now, not all stores have the space for big displays & some just don't have the traffic to tie up that much money in product. Some supplies will supply empty boxes that you can purchase instead of having buy all the product at one given time, but you still have the boxes to create the display. Another key area to merchandise the product is in your store window. Everyone loves popcorn & it fits for a number of seasons. Build a display with a sign that reads, "Pop on in for a free bag of Popcorn", then have popcorn to give away.

Corporate Gifting
Corporate gifting works as another great opportunity for selling popcorn & poppers. There are numbers of great opportunities in this area. 1) Call up a local Real Estate, Mortgage or Finance Company, they are always looking for a nice, unique and reasonably priced housewarming gift for their clients at closing. 2) Work with a Electronics store in your area. The trend in electronics today are Home Theater Systems. Offer a deal where they can give the popper as an incentive for their customers to buy the systems or as a give away after they buy. Pitch it as you know have the Theater system to make movie watching at home as if you were at the movies and now you can have that same popcorn at home, made in a popper designed like a movie theater popper. 3) Any Business looking for gifts for Christmas, Award Programs or Anniversary for their employees, can be offered the popper as an unique, fun gift for the whole family, after all who doesn't like popcorn.

Munchie of the Week
Without great popcorn, that box office blockbuster may as well be a TV movie of the week. Enhance your customers\' next chewing experience by making sure they know about your high-quality popcorn poppers and gourmet popping corn. Create a display that pairs a movie with a Popcorn Munchie of the Week. Engage all your staff members. Each week, have a different staff member take a turn writing a short review of a new release on DVD or videotape. Have your in-house critic pick his or her favorite popcorn to accompany that film. Then create a \"Popcorn Picks\" sign for your display, detailing the movie review and the accompanying favorite popcorn. It can be a flavored popcorn that you sell or their recipe for a special seasoning blend. Every Friday during your promotion, have that week\'s movie critic demo the popcorn popper and sample their favorite popcorn. Draw attention to the promotion from the front of your store by creating a Popcorn Walk of Fame. Using self-adhesive stars on the floor, mark a direct path from the front door to your Popcorn Munchie of the Week Display. On each star, write the name of a gourmet popcorn that you carry. The fun of following the stars will propel customers straight to your display.

Merry Poppers
For kids, summer means no school for three months. For their parents, it means keeping youngsters entertained for three months. You can help with a springtime promotion that promises a fun-filled summer for parents and their kids. Create a display targeted at children with a colorful sign that reads, \"A Kid\'s Culinary Adventure.\" Under the sign, merchandise all of the items you carry that would get kids interested in cooking. Your stovetop and fireplace popcorn poppers should feature prominently in this display. Highlight a different culinary adventure each week. One week could be campfire cookouts, during which you promote your fireplace or campfire popcorn poppers, pint-size picnic supplies, etc. Another week, you could focus on rainy-day activities like making movie theater-style popcorn with a stovetop popper and making and wrapping popcorn balls. Print up activity sheets for each week. List the supplies needed, such as popcorn poppers, and provide the recipes for each week. Include nutritional information, when possible. Parents will be pleased to know that quality poppers can pop six quarts of popcorn in as little as a teaspoon of oil. Stress that your culinary adventures are meant to be family affairs, and that all cooking and popcorn popping should take place with parental supervision. Invite customers to share their favorite culinary adventures by placing a suggestion box in your display. Let customers know that at summer\'s end, you and your staff will choose the best activity/recipe submitted as the winning adventure for the summer. Reward the winning family by presenting them with a collection of gourmet popcorn or a Popcorn Popper Gift Set.

Pop Stars
Whether it\'s to celebrate the Grammys, the Oscars, the Super Bowl, or the World Series, Americans love an excuse to throw a party. And putting on a party means putting out hors d\'oeuvres. If you regularly promote snacks, beverages, and party supplies around events such as the Super Bowl, be sure to make popcorn poppers and gourmet popping corn part of the spread. These events present the ideal opportunity to step up your popper demos. Show customers that homemade gourmet popcorn is an easy, fast, and delicious enhancement to any gathering. Generate additional interest by pulling together gift sets celebrating each event. Before the Grammys, for example, offer a \"Pop Star\" Gift Set consisting of a popcorn popper, a package of gourmet popping corn, and a seasoning for a special price. For the Super Bowl, offer a special deal on a \"Super Bowl\" Gift Set containing several kinds of popcorn and an oversize bowl that\'s perfect for serving the popcorn. Get creative and your pop stars will turn solid gold.
